Material relating to events which took place in 1997 during Mary Robinson (MR)'s presidency including folder of flyers, information sheets, programme, draft address and other material for Dublin Corporation Conference "Drugs in Dublin - Working Together, we can make a Difference", 07-08/02/1997, at which MR was giving opening address; background typed notes on possible topics of discussion for 8th March 1997, which related to the Pope and his commitment to Human Rights; postcard from P[ercy?] O[ghn?] thanking MR for opening "Port Kids" exhibition, Dublin May 1997, and featuring black and white photograph of MR giving address, possibly from the opening itself; fax from Judy Murray, Top Floor Management, in relation to performance by musicians Donal Lunny, Tríona Ní Dhomhnaill, Nollaig Casey, John McSherry, Stephen Cooney, and others at event and giving their addresses as requested by Ann Lane [presumably for them to be sent thank-you cards from MR], 16/06/1997; flyer for opening of The House of Manannan [Thie Vanannan], presentation on Celtic, Viking and Maritime heritage of the Isle of Man, which MR was officially opening, 07/07/1997; typed letter from Michael Slazenger, Powerscourt Estate, thanking MR for officially re-opening Powerscourt House, 23/07/1997; typed letter from John Behan, Galway, stating how moved he was by MR's speech at the opening of the Famine Commemorative Ceremony, Boston, on 20th July, and from Kieran McGowan, Chief Executive Officer, Industrial Development Agency of Ireland (IDA), thanking her for her attendance and speech at luncheon in Boston on 23 July, 22-25/07/1997; typed letter from Frank X Martin, Augustine House of Studies, Dublin 16, to MR thanking her for memorable evening "for Bride's Book" [private launch of Bride Rosney's book], 03/09/1997; handwritten letter of thanks from SFA [Small Firms Association], to MR for attending their annual lunch, 10/09/1997; correspondence (stained from water damage) between Kieran Rose, Project Director, Gay HIV Strategies, and Bride Rosney (BR), Special Adviser to the President, relating to the presentation to MR of "HIV Prevention Strategies and the Gay Community" report, at Áras an Uachtaráin, 09/09/1997, with list of those attending; correspondence between Sr Stanislaus Kennedy, President, Focus Ireland, MR and BR, in relation to MR opening the George's Hill housing project on 12th September, which would be one of her last engagements as President, 28/05-19/12/1997; circular from Ballinglen Arts Foundation which references MR opening The Ballinglen Centre, 12/1997; typed proposal from Ken Thompson, sculptor, to carve a sculpture to commemorate the Irish Famine, for erection in Philadelphia, and which may have coincided with MR's visit to Boston, USA in July.
