Excerpt of Edmund Bray's autographical letter written in in 1872 response to a request for personal histories of California pioneer settlers. Bray was born in Co. Tipperary in the spring of 1807, emigrated to New York in 1837, and made his way to California in 1844, where he worked various labouring jobs until suffering a life-altering injury in 1856; at the time of the letter, Bray had been a resident of the Sacramento County Hospital for 6 years.
