Scope and content
Materials pertaining to 8 letters found in the Mrs. Charles W. Ballard Papers at the Indiana State Library written to or from Irish emigrants between 1836 and 1860. The majority of the letters pertain to Edmond O'Connor, who settled in Albany, New York and likely later left for Lafayette, Indiana at the behest of his cousins, the Corbetts, sometime after 1852. Also featuring in the letters are his in-laws in Albany, the Maloney (Malony) family. The series consists of: biographical notes on O'Connor and his relatives; transcripts and reproductions of the 8 letters; correspondence between Kerby A. Miller, the Indiana State Library, and an Albany genealogist; and photocopies of Albany census records featuring the family.
