Transcripts of letters excerpted from Carr, James O. (1901), The Dickson Letters (Raleigh: Edwards & Broughton), and Kerby A. Miller's own transcripts, of letters held in the William Dickson Papers, State Archives of North Carolina [call number PC.1088], including Miller's research notes on the Dickson family. This features correspondence between William Dickson in North Carolina and his cousin Rev. Robert Dickson in County Down. Further correspondence involving Robert Dickson is located at P155/73/17/1.
Per Miller: ‘William Dickson's great-great-great-grandfather, Simon Dickson (b. 1607 or 8) emigrated to Ireland from England to take up a grant of 400 acres in the townland of Dromore (Par. of Warrenspoint, bar. of Upper Iveagh, upper part, Co. Down) awarded for service on the parliamentary side in the Civil War. Dickson became a tenant on his former holding at the Restoration. Dickson's great-great-grandsons John and William Dickson emigrated to America.’
