Per the Gallagher/Carroll family: 'The original letters and diary of Daniel T. Shehan written between 1841-1850s have been reproduced in their original form when possible. The originals are in the Patrick Pearse Library of the Eastside Irish-American Club, Cleveland, Ohio. During 1992 while closing the Gallagher/Carroll home at 2199 Westminster Road, Cleveland Heights, Ohio, additional letters, notebooks and the family bible of Daniel T. Shehan were found. The family is indebted to Dr. Kerby Miller, History Department, University of Missouri, Columbia, Missouri who has transcribed these letters for us in a book on Irish immigrants. The remaining original letters will be placed in the Western Reserve Historical Society, Cleveland, Ohio (Ms. 4817) along with selected personal items listed.'

Letters and journals written by Daniel T. Shehan, a native of Ballylongford, County Kerry who emigrated to Canada West (now Ontario) in 1841 and then to Cleveland, Ohio later in the decade, where he lived with his family until his death in 1869. Included are transcripts and copies of 12 letters from Shehan to his parents in Kerry, transcript of a diary (c.50pp) kept by Shehan and his sister, correspondence between Kerby A. Miller and Shehan descendant Margaret Gallagher, and research compiled by Miller and the Gallagher/Carroll family pertaining to both Ontario and Ohio.
