Scope and content
Correspondence between Bride Rosney, Principal Adviser to Mary Robinson (MR) in her role as High Commissioner for Human Rights, and previously advisor to MR when MR was President, and Brian McCarthy, Secretary to the President [subsequent President of Ireland, Mary McAleese], concerning a letter sent by Basil Blackshaw to MR at Áras an Uachtaráin [where sitting President of Ireland resides] which had been opened and returned without covering note, which Rosney stated had caused hurt and embarrassment, and noting MR and her husband Nick were both told the letter was to be forwarded to them, 16/04-19/05/1998.
[Archivist's note: MR was attending Áras an Uachtaráin to view an official portrait and bust of her as former President of Ireland, at an event where the artist and sculptor were also invited. Blackshaw, the artist in question, was unable to attend and had written in relation to that.]
