Scope and content
Copy typescript statement (2 pp) from [Harold Wilson, Prime Minister UK in a first reply to the Republican movement], late March 1975. Stating their failure to understand the Republicans' stance - pointing to the past 50 days of peace on the one hand, but critical of the Provisionals' failure to engage with the loyalists, of their boycotting the Constitutional Convention; also stressing their own grave problems arising from increased violence from internecine and sectarian fighting. (With a handwritten caption by [Éamonn Downey], dating the item. Also handwritten comments by [Brendan Duddy] identifying origin and adding the piece was 'doctored' by Sir F.Cooper, Northern Ireland Office; stating Duddy refused to use it.)
