Scope and content

Materials pertaining to 9 letters sent between Stewartstown, County Tyrone and Philadelphia between 1785 and 1848 either by or to members of the Weir/Robinson family, a Presbyterian family from Stewartstown of which many emigrated to Philadelphia. Correspondents outside the family include Rev. Thomas Clark, a Presbyterian minister who was imprisoned in Ireland and who subsequently led his congregation from County Monaghan to America, settling in what became Washington County, New York, and in South Carolina. Also included are biographical notes on the correspondents and some background research on Scots-Irish emigration.
