Scope and content
Materials related to 20th century Irish politician Batt O'Connor's published autobiography, With Michael Collins in the Fight for Irish Independence (London: Peter Davies, Ltd., 1929). O'Connor was born in 1870 in Brosna, County Kerry and emigrated in 1893 to New Hampshire and eventually on to Rhode Island. His father was a stonemason and O'Connor left school at 17 to follow him into the trade, which he discusses in his memoirs and in which he worked while in America. O'Connor stayed in America for five years and then returned to Ireland where he went on to join the Gaelic League and the Irish Republican Brotherhood, became active in the struggle for Irish independence, and eventually went into politics.
