Correspondence relating to an invite to President Mary Robinson (MR) from the Law Society to open their conference to be held in Berlin, in April 1992, and which, in light of the implications of the Single European Act, was to be broadened to include solicitors from Northern Ireland, which would have full participation of the German Lawyer societies, and which would include the German President were MR to attend. Although MR expressed interest in attending and was supportive of the innovative step, following consultation with the Attorney General, the Department of the Taoiseach recommended the invitation not be accepted. File also contains material relating to how and when speeches are prepared ahead of functions MR was to address, including typed memo from Peter Ryan, Secretary to the President, to MR suggesting that draft speeches be replaced by speaking points, where suitable, to reduce burden on the departments and to give MR more flexibility, 23/10/1991, and lists of functions for September and November, sent by PR to Catherine Eddery, 21/06/1991 and to Colm Butler on 07/10/1991 respectively, which he included as an example of volume of work.
