Scope and content
A typed transcript and photocopied original memoir, Tree of the Prairie, written by Annie King Lachore and describing her family history from the 1870s to the 1920s. A note from the Minnesota Historical Society: 'Memoir written by Annie Lachore (nee King) re the arrival of her parents in America, and their subsequent settlement on the prairie in Minnesota. This section of the memoir ends with her imminent marriage by which time her family, the Kings are well established prosperous farmers.'
Lachore was the daughter of Patrick King, born in Cootehill, County Cavan in 1846 who emigrated in 1872 and Mary Dugan, a native of Ballaghaderreen, County Roscommon born ca. 1854 who emigrated in 1876. The family were part of Bishop John Ireland's Irish Catholic colony in Minnesota. Following the introductory section on her parents, the author provides details on her relatives across Minnesota, the Dakotas, and Saskatchewan.
The series also includes Kerby A. Miller's research notes.
