Scope and content
Materials pertaining to 26 letters written by emigrant Andrew Greenlees to his brother John in Magheramorne, County Antrim between 1852 and 1907. Greenlees emigrated circa 1852 and initially settled in upstate New York working in an iron foundry. By 1856, he had moved in with relatives in Ottawa, Illinois and soon becomes a farmer. Greenlees began his family here shortly thereafter. In March 1874, the Greenlees moved to Rice County, Kansas and remained there as farmer until either 1896 or 1906, after which time Greenlees is in Oklahoma. In addition to transcripts and reproductions of the letters, the series contains extensive genealogical research on the Greenlees and their relatives, photographs of the extended Greenlees family mainly from the early 20th century, and research (with related correspondence) compiled by Kerby A. Miller on the family.
