He is making preparations for his departure to Barbados and writes of his hopes for promotion following a number of vacancies that have arisen in his regiment. He may travel with Richard Pakenham if he has not already left for Mexico. He bids her 'Farewell for a long time and the same to Harriette & her party at Borris'.
